Natalye Childress is a California-born writer and editor of Berlin Beat. In addition to working as a freelance journalist, last year she completed her first book, a memoir.

Natalye attended Sonoma State University where she graduated in 2011 with a Master of Arts in English, emphasis in Creative Writing. During her two years at SSU, she also studied German. Prior to graduate school, she received a Bachelor of Arts from Sacramento State University in Journalism with a minor in Music, emphasis in Saxophone Performance.

For the past five years, Natalye has worked at various newspapers and trade publications, including the Press DemocratThe State HornetThe ConnectionSonoma Pets and Crittenden News. Her published stories and album reviews have appeared nationally in Wonka Vision Magazine, and she has maintained columns for Examiner.com, covering the indie music scene in and surrounding Oakland, Calif., as well as writing about German music. Natalye also worked as a stringer for The Associated Press, a position she held from 2006-2011.  She is a tutor for Smarthinking, and in the past has worked as a tutor in the Sonoma State University Writing Center, and volunteered at 826 Valencia.

Natalye’s areas of interest outside of the writing realm include road bikes, indie music, making mixtapes, learning new languages, drinking beer, traveling, vegan baking and urban gardening. She also semi-regularly maintains a blog about her life.
